Having said that, I think Genesis 8 is objectively a better model so, for you getting into 3dx now, it doesn't make sense using something older (with maybe some exceptions).

And that's fine, as those artists keep proving, you can still get awesome results using older models. So it's not worth the hassle of upgrading, especially from Genesis 3. Most people still using older models do so because they have a ton of content for those models and a comfortable workflow that produces good results. To add to the confusion, you may learn some of your favorite 3dx artists don't use Genesis 8 but one of the older models. There is an autofit utility in Daz but it's. Most character content (clothes, hair, poses, etc) is not compatible with all Genesis versions right out of the box.

This is the latest Daz "base model" and it comes free with the software but, as you may have also noticed, it also comes with the older versions. This is not THE way to start, but it is what I would do if I had to start all over again with the knowledge I have today, and I figured I'd share it to contribute something back to the awesome 3dx community.įirst things first: don't bother using other models besides Genesis 8. maybe?), most likely there are better and more experienced artists than me to help you with that.

What do I really need to start making my 3dx scenes? What are all these model versions, characters, bundles, morphs. Not enough to create the renders of your dreams! So you go to the Daz store (or Renderosity. So you love 3dx and want to start making your own? You found out using Daz Studio is free, installed it, and then you noticed you only have a handful of things in your content library. Figured I could share it and save a few people some headaches (and probably some money). I don't consider myself a "pro" since I don't have a career selling my works yet, but I have been using Daz for two years, making many, many mistakes xD. That led to me thinking, "what would I do if I were to start today with my current knowledge?", and that led to me writing it down between renders. These are just some good examples. With the current sale in the Daz store, I have been thinking a lot about what's actually useful and how much I have messed up since I started doing this, especially since I began when Genesis 8 was fairly new and it wasn't very clear (at least for me) what should I get. Also, do check out more content from the artists since they have a wide range of spectacular items.
